Live was the first electronic set I ever composed for a live setting. It was recorded in early January at Club Dada in Deep Ellum while performing with Baths and Braids. At the time most of these songs were demos, unreleased material and ideas I had flailing around in my head but they still all fit together.
Piecing together audio collages live, on the spot is so organic to me and I think it leaves a lot of room for expressing how you really feel. The artwork was made my myself as well and is still one of my favorite album covers I have ever done. I played all the instruments on this album (minus the remixes) and then re-sampled and looped them live to remix my own songs.
I like to think that we’ve got a plan, so let’s stick to it. That said, once we’ve stuck to it, we’re allowed as much improvisation as anyone cares to indulge themselves in.
